At the start of the holiday season, the lawyers of the County of Carleton Law Association gathered on thursday evening to greet their colleagues, raise a glass of cheer, and donate to the Ottawa Food Bank.   Throughout the year the local legal community contributes individually, and as firms to a number of charitable organizations.  Just last month lawyers made up about half of the attendees at the annual Fall Fundraising event for the Brain Injury Association of the Ottawa Valley, where a record amount was raised for that essential local charitable organization (which functions 100% on fundraising and volunteers).  At Christmas time legal professionals also participate in the Elgin Street Courthouse Angel program which ensures that all children in the care of the Children’s Aid Society recieve Christmas gifts purchased by members of the legal community.  Year round lawyers volunteer their time to  provide pro bono servises at the Law Help Ontario Office located in the Ottawa Courthouse. Most lawyers are aware that it is a priviledge to practice law, and they are quick to support the community wherever needed. Enjoy the holiday season, and may the spirit of giving continue all year!
