June is Brain Injury Awareness month and to support the cause, our firm participates in various activities to promote awareness, brain injury prevention, and fundraising.

Every year, we participate in the Ontario Trial Lawyer Association’s Helmets on Kids program. This program is intended to put a helmet on the head of every child who needs one and provides education and awareness about bicycle helmet use. Since 2008, a total of 6777 helmets have been donated to children in the Eastern Ontario region, and we have successfully raised a total of $84,485.00 for Helmets on Kids.

We kicked off the month of June by attending the Cornwall Police Service’s Bikes & Badges event, where children from the community were provided with a helmet, free bicycle inspection, and lessons on bicycle safety and rules of the road.

Alongside members of Bergeron Clifford LLP and Gluckstein Lawyers, we attended St. Bernard Catholic School in Ottawa to educate children on the importance of helmet safety. We emphasized the necessity of wearing helmets and demonstrated the correct way to wear them to ensure maximum protection. Our firm also attended l’École élémentaire Marie-Curie to provide the students with helmets and education on the importance of helmet safety.

On June 12, we sponsored and participated in Brain Injury Awareness Day. This event is hosted by Vista Centre Brain Injury Services and features expert speakers offering research and valuable insights to survivors of brain injury, their family members, service providers and clinicians. The keynote speaker for the 13^th annual Brain Injury Awareness Day was Nathan Reich, a gold winning Canadian Paralympic athlete.

On June 18, we participated in the 11^th annual Fleming Fitness Golf Tournament. Pat Fleming, kinesiologist, community leader and owner of Fleming Fitness, organizes an annual golf tournament to raise money for the Brain Injury Association of the Ottawa Valley (BIAOV). This year, Pat and his team successfully raised $20,000.00 for the BIAOV.
