On January 29, 2025, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) hosted its highly anticipated annual Ski Day at the Sommet Edelweiss Ski Resort. In collaboration with Canadian Adaptive Snowsports, SCIO provided an incredible sit-skiing experience, allowing individuals with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities to enjoy a day on the slopes and perhaps discover a new passion for skiing.
Once again, Burn Tucker Lachaîne was a proud sponsor of the event. Members of the firm volunteered alongside SCIO, Canadian Adaptive Snowsports, and other community members, coming together to support participants and help create an inclusive and empowering environment.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, SCIO raised $13,000.00 and 16 individuals from the disability community had the chance to experience the joy of sit-skiing. Whether experiencing skiing for the first time or honing their adaptive skills, attendees enjoyed a day full of excitement, connection, and the thrill of adaptive skiing.
Reflecting on the experience, skier Mamady Cissoko shared:
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to sit skiing, it was my first time ever to experience skiing and I really enjoyed, I had a wonderful time, everyone was so nice and welcoming.
Thank you to SCIO and CADS for organizing the Ottawa Ski & snowboard day event and special thanks to Burn Tucker Lachaîne PC for generously providing my transportation without which I would not have been able to have this experience.”
On behalf of SCIO, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and participants who made this event possible.
