June is always a busy  month for us in the personal injury legal community.  This June was no exception, with activities focussed on Brain Injury prevention, awareness and fundraising.

We kicked off the month by participating as sponsors in a great event put on but the Cornwall Police distributing and fitting free bike helmets to over 75 Cornwall youth.  There was a free helmet and bike accessory for all who attended as well as bike tune ups, draws to win a bicycle, a bike safety course, zumba, and a free hot dog lunch.The event was a great success in promoting bicycle safety and brain injury prevention.

Throughout the month we attended various schools in the area providing brain injury prevention talks as well as free bike helmets to elementary school childern.  The message and free helmets were well received.  Favourite activies included an egg drop demonstration (with and without a helmet) and touching the jell-o brain.

On June 12, 2019 we participated as sponsors in Brain Injury Awareness Day an annual educationlal event geared to brain inury survivors, their families, and treatment providers.  This unique event is completely funded by sponsorships which allows participants to attend free of charge.  This year’s Keynote Speaker was former NHL player, Jesse Winchester.  The day was a great success exploring such topics as caregiver resiliance, the effects of marijuanna and aquired brain injury, and “lessons learned since my brain injury”.

On June 19, 2019 we sponsored and participated in the Flemming Fitness Golf Tournament where over $20,000 was raised for the Brain Injury Associateion of the Ottawa Valley. This was a fun, feel good event as we joined with many others to raise funds for this very deserving organization.  As much more funds are needed to prevent loss of programming our efforts continued this month  to plan for the 13th annual BIAOV Fall Fundraiser which will be held October 23, 2019 http://BIAOVFallFundraiser.com
