On November 3, 2014, Victoria Buchanan, a 25 year old Ottawa resident, was struck by an OC Transpo bus after falling as she ran to catch the bus. Although efforts were made by paramedics to revive Ms. Buchanan in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.
Some witnesses have said that the Baseline Road stretch where the accident occurred is particularly dangerous for pedestrians.
At Burn Tucker Lachaîne, we regularly advise clients about their rights and obligations as pedestrians. In a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident, it is assumed that the driver of the vehicle was at fault, unless the driver can prove otherwise. Drivers must always be cautious and on the lookout for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrian/vehicle accidents can result in devastating, serious injuries and, in many cases, death.
If you, or someone you know, has been injured as a pedestrian, we can offer you a free consultation. We can advise you as to your rights and, if you want to proceed, we can represent you in your claim, through to settlement or trial.
